Pakistani diplomat arrested in India for 'espionage'NEW DELHI: A staffer of Pakistan High Commission in New Dehli has been declared persona non grata after he was arrested by the police for ‘espionage’.
The police claimed that diplomat Mehmood Akhtar was arrested on a tip off and was found ‘possessing defence related documents’. Later, he was released because of diplomatic immunity.

Pakistan High Commissioner, Abdul Basit strongly rejected and denied accusations of the Indian government. He protested with Indian Foreign Secretary at the detention and manhandling of the staffer.
The HC asked the Indian government to ensure that such harassment should not happen in future. He further said that Pakistan High Commission never engages in any activity that is incompatible with its diplomatic status.

The spokesman of India’s External Affairs Ministry, Vikas Swarp said that Pak HC has been conveyed that the staffer has been declared persona non grata for espionage activities and he must leave within 48 hours.
